Genius Hour 1.2 Taxidermy

Week 2 of Taxidermy

Welcome back! I am going to be honest, I wish I had more progress to share with you guys. This second week of taxidermy has been pretty slow for me. I was gone for 4 days on a moose hunt and 1 day for District FFA, I know, no excuses, but this schedule has not allowed me to complete all of the things I had in mind for this week. I purposely assigned myself a little less this week and packed next week with lots of tasks. I planned on having the form picked out and ordered by this week, but after talking to my dad, he gave me an idea, to carve my own form out of foam. As far as the pose goes I have decided to have the quail in a flying position, probably a wall mount.

The form is one of the more important things in the starting of anything taxidermy, here are a few pictures that give you a better idea of what a form looks like if you order them pre-shaped.

I did however, get to speak with one of my dad's friend who has his own taxidermy business and he likes to see the quails in motion rather than nested. I decided that if I have time it would be cool to have more than one quail in this mount, but we will cross that bridge when we get there. Although I did not accomplish all that I wanted to this week, I have a full week ahead of me to catch up and make up lost time.

  1. Come on, Elise! No excuses! You have to get these things done! Just kidding, you were gone a lot and had enough to worry about with Hollowell's outrageous homework. My grandpa does taxidermy and I enjoy seeing all the things that come out of his shop, so I'm excited to see the progress you make on your taxidermy projects!
