Taxidermy 1.3
Week three has been full of tasks for this project! The form is fully shaped and ready for a bird to fit on it. I have thawed and frozen the bird a few different times because I really need like two days in a row to complete my next step of actually getting the quail onto the form, so I am hoping to get this done within the next week.
I am right on track with my planning now as I have been watching videos on the shaping of the head and neck and becoming well prepared for the big step next week. I have chosen the eyes I want to use for the quail and found a few pieces of wood that would go very well for the base/habitat for my mount.
It has been mostly busy work for me so far. I really just need a full day with nothing going on to really sit down and get all of the little pieces put together. Next week I should have some more pictures of the progress I've made!

This project must require a lot of skill, time and effort. Once you get the necessary amount of time to work, as you mentioned above, will your project be completed or will you still have steps in the taxidermy process left to complete?
ReplyDeleteAfter I complete the majority of the quail itself, the rest of my project will consist of the making of the habitat around the bird and making it more realistic.
DeleteWow! I'm very impressed with details of your work. I can tell that this project really means a lot to you based on your blog. I don't know very much about taxidermy, but I am guessing that it is quite a difficult skill to learn, especially to teach yourself! What has been the most difficult part of the taxidermy process for you to learn so far, or what are you most worried about in your plan for learning in the weeks to come?
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a rigorous process! What is the purpose of thawing and freezing the bird multiple times?
ReplyDeleteI have no knowledge of taxidermy, but it sounds like a long process to learn. It seems that the little details are important to the whole process. Has learning this process been difficult? I think this would be a good hobby to continue with, you seem to enjoy it.

ReplyDeleteI'm no ranchy person and this looks really difficult. As I was reading your blog I just kept thinking to myself, "Why do people want a dead bird staring at them while they are sleeping?" But I guess whatever fits your personalities! Also, what's a quail?
