This week I took advantage of the beautiful weather we have been having and took a hike! I was so happy to be able to get out and try a few new things. My plan for this week was to do some sort of action shot, I was originally planning on doing some with my dog but went out on a bit of a limb ans tried something else. These shots I tried throwing snow in the air and catching it as it fell to the ground. It was difficult to maneuver the camera quickly and the snow was not very fluffy and clumped up. I thought the sun would help see the snow better, but it ended up making a few spots. It was not exactly what I was imagining in my head but it gave me a good idea of what to do better next time. Then I went back to my previous method of focusing on something close and then having a big background image. I was really happy with the way this one turned out. Next week I hope to use the action mode on my camera more now that I know how to use it a little better. The real challenge ...

For this week, I am going to take what I have learned so far in my photography project and outline the main mistakes I have made, as well as the things you should never do while taking pictures. Some of the tips I have either read online or learned from my friends who are really good at photography. Five Things A Photographer Should Never Do Never use the flash when taking indoor pictures- I have done this and did not realize that it is looked down upon in the photography world....oops  Never shoot into direct sunlight- Always results in blotches like these. Never cut people off at the joints- I do not usually take pictures of people but this is a big one when it comes to portraits. ex: she is cut off at the ankles Never take pictures if you are shaking really bad- A tripod is always a good idea if you struggle to hold steady. Never overthink it- Photography is fun, you don't have to try so hard to take a good picture! The List Post

This week I took a much needed hike out by Strawberry Hill to take my pictures. I really enjoyed the snow on the trees for my this shoot I thought they really gave me some good ideas. After walking around a bit i decided this week to work on what is called macro photography or the focusing on smaller things. Now I did not go super close into anything because that requires a different lens than what I have to get that quality close up shot. So my compromise was to take a small step back and try to capture some of the background as a filler behind the main subject. This was my new perspective for week five as planned on my sheet.  I would say things are going pretty well so far. It was difficult to keep my hands from shaking while the camera was focusing and trying to adjust the zoom at the same time was a challenge. There is definitely room for improvement just like anything else but overall I would say this week was a success. Next week I hope to play around with some progressio...

Welcome back! After last weeks let down I got after it this week with a new technique that I had never hear of before but I tried it out. This technique is called the rule of thirds. Basically what you have to do is imagine that there are two horizontal and two vertical lines across the image and focus what ever you are taking a picture of on one of those focal points where the lines intersect.  I did not take this picture but it does give a good representation of the technique in use. I tried this out on my way to Fort Keogh this week and I thought that they turned out alright. I think that the use of the archway and sign was a good start for me. It is a simple shot but I think that it is a step in the right direction. These are the photos I took. After figuring this out I think I need to work on sun exposure next, and how to use that as an advantage or get rid of it all together. I was overall happy with these pictures and I am right on track with my plan and excited to s...

Welcome back bloggers! This week I chose my new skill/ perspective  to be the use of flash and catching the right angle. I planned on getting outside to take pictures but it gets so dark early that it has been hard to find time to get out so this week I decided to challenge myself a little and try some indoor pictures. This was difficult because I have not really used my flash very often and the room where we keep the mounts is not very well lit. I also found that the large objects are hard to capture in one picture without it looking awkward. I honestly wasn't very happy with my pictures this week but I hope to improve my skills in this area and hopefully get outside this week sometime. I am thinking maybe I should take some pictures on my way out to Fort Keogh, it should be a fun challenge finding a good subject to take pictures of given there is really nothing green out right now.  I am on schedule as far as my plan I focused on flash and lighting indoors this week and...

Welcome back, this week my progress was very little. I am ashamed to say I did not get out and take pictures like I intended to. I was busy with basketball and a trip to Medora this weekend. I planned on getting a hold of Haley, however, I ran into a small bump in the road, Ethan and Haley broke up this week so I am going to let that simmer down before I go and ask her for any favors. So, my plans for next week are to get back outside and try some more shots. I have looked into a website called Digital Camera World and they have a lot of good tips and tricks for taking pictures that I am excited to try. The use of filters is another thing I hope to learn in future weeks, I have used them before on social media but I would not say I know how to properly use them. I still have a lot of work to do and I am excited to see what I can accomplish during this genius hour!
